The Acacia longifolia Network online platform has the goal of making information about the invasive species A. longifolia freely accessible to all that are interested, whether they are within or outside the scientific community, as nowadays there is a clear tendency to develop digital platforms where information can be easily available.
Furthermore, the invasive process of A. longifolia is still poorly understood, and its invasion is a serious environmental threat. It is desirable that researchers, stakeholders and policy makers share information at a global scale and use A. longifolia as a model species to test theories and management tools. Therefore, we also hope that the Acacia longifolia Network promotes collaborations between stakeholders and researchers from different fields in order to find better management strategies and prevent further invasion.
The Acacia longifolia Network online platform was funded by the Participatory Budget 2018 of the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (OP@CESAM, Portugal), within the awarded project “Genetic variability in native and recently invaded ecosystems by Acacia longifolia: a global model species” lead by Sara Vicente, PhD student of the Biology and Ecology of Global Change program.
